The Making of Vitality Vittles

Vitality Vittles was founded on a passion for providing the absolute best nutrition for the animals that do so much for us.  Our philosophy is, “Your pet’s food should be good enough for you!  If you won’t eat it, why give it to your best friend?”  Research has shown that diet is one of the most important contributors to the health and well being of dogs.  We work with the best veterinarians, nutritionists and other pet professionals to create a diet consisting of fresh, natural foods with minimal processing and no non-nutritional chemical additives.

Jodi Jones founded Vitality Vittles after experiencing first hand the effects of a natural foods diet for herself and her two rescued Samoyeds Sami and Sasha.  In her late 20’s Jodi had her first experience with pain and fatigue, it seemed random at the time, but over the next decade, pain and weariness took over her life.  After many years, she was eventually diagnosed with Lupus and Fibromyalgia. Over the years she became increasingly debilitated. No longer could she take her dogs for a run, play golf with her husband or go flying like she once used to. Eight years of taking doctor-prescribed medications including prednisone, cortisone shots and four different daily medications didn’t help; her symptoms continued to worsen.

Once a vibrant and successful marketing executive, by the time she reached her 40th birthday Jodi was a shell of her former self and, unable to meet the demands of her position as an executive at a software development company, Jodi was forced into early retirement.

Desperate to recover her health and vitality, Jodi sought meaningful explanations for her illnesses and alternative treatments to remedy her condition. In desperation, Jodi contemplated her own choices in nutrition, and realized that perhaps her own abuse of her body is what has left her malnourished, with damaged blood cells and a compromised immune system. It was this epiphany that led her to the Whitaker Wellness Institute in Newport Beach, CA, and eventually down the road to recovery and success.

Her experience at this wellness center was eye-opening and awe-inspiring; Jodi clearly embraced the connection between nutrition and disease. “I had never really believed this in the past,” she says “I thought it was all hype. But it is not, and I’m proof of that…so are hundreds of my clients!” Within six months of following a lifestyle of wellness, Jodi was symptom free. Within a year Jodi’s illnesses were in complete remission. After a decade, Jodi got her vitality back ~ and with it, an extreme passion to share her success with others.

Jodi immediately began pursuit of health education. She became a certified sports nutritionist, chef and co-author of The Vitality Connection: Ten Practical Ways to Optimize Your Health and Reverse the Aging Process, with Michael Grossman, M.D.  She founded Wellness Alliance Network, Inc. (wellness education) and Vitality Gourmet, which offer clients a comprehensive nutritional solution that encompass great tasting gourmet meals, nutritional consultation and best-in-class nutritional supplements.  In 2006, Jodi’s beloved Samoyeds, ages 15 and 17, began experiencing health issues. Sasha in particular suffered from skin allergies, bad breath, sinus problems and loss of energy.  These ailments were chalked up to the inevitable aging process, and Jodi and her husband were advised to steel themselves that Sasha may be nearing the end.

As she did for herself years earlier, Jodi looked to diet for answers. Due to hectic schedules and the amount of time it takes to prepare home cooked meals, Sasha and Sami had been fed traditional premium dry and canned dog food over the past few years.  At the recommendation of their vet, Jodi began researching a natural foods diet for her dogs.  Using her own nutritional expertise and talking with vets, nutritionists and researchers, Jodi developed a natural, holistic, nutritionally balanced diet for Sami and Sasha.

After only two months on this new diet, Jodi noticed a significant change in her dogs.  They had renewed energy and vitality, their coats were shining and they didn’t have bad breath anymore. Their vet remarked, “Sami and Sasha are amazing!  They have the vitality of three year olds and aren’t ready for doggy heaven anytime soon!”  Sami and Sasha were given a new lease on life, and their natural foods diet provided the foundation of their health and vitality.  At ages 15 and 17, Sami and Sasha are still going strong.

This experience with her own dogs led Jodi to create Vitality Vittles to provide fresh, natural, nutritionally balanced meals with the convenience of store bought kibble.  Jodi, together with her team of chefs, nutritionists and animal experts, was on a mission to give all dogs and cats the vitality she experienced with her own pets.
